about

Niklas Woermann is a research assistant and PhD-student at the Department of Sociology at the University of St. Gallen. Supported by a scholarship of the Swiss National Foundation, he is currently visiting the Department of Sociology at Lancaster University.

Niklas studied in Germany, Switzerland, Indonesia, and Australia, and holds a bachelor in international management from Karlsruhe, as well as a master in marketing management from the University of St. Gallen. Besides his involvement in two web-oriented start-ups, he gained industry experience with companies such as Daimler-Chrysler or Procter & Gamble and worked as a brand consultant for brands such as Nivea, BILD (Europe’s largest newspaper), or Bionade.

Convinced that consumption and marketing are more complex and fascinating than any 2x2 matrix could ever be, he subsequently returned to academia in order to dig deeper into their cultural and social foundations. Niklas gained another master’s degree in sociology at the University of Constance and joined a multidisciplinary PhD-program at St. Gallen. Applying this theoretical and methodological background to bridge the gap between sociology and marketing, he contributed to qualitative research projects on consumption and technology at both universities. Niklas has been awarded several awards and scholarships and has taught at the Universities of St. Gallen and Constance.
